Morrisons Cove Rotary Club 2022 Four-Way Test Speech Contest Winners Announced
The Morrisons Cove Rotary Club has announced the winners of their 2022 Four-Way Test Speech Contest held on Tuesday, February 22 at Northern Bedford High School. Six contestants representing Northern Bedford High Schools participated.
The purpose of the annual Four-Way Test Speech Contest is to foster the principles of ethics in everyday life as well as in business and introduces high school students to Rotary. Each student is asked to write and present a speech in length of no less than five minutes and no more than seven minutes. They select the topic of their speech, but should incorporate Rotary’s Four-Way Test “Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”
Matthew Hall, a 12th grade student at Northern Bedford High School, was awarded first place and a check in the amount of $500. Nathanael Helsel, a 12th grade student at Northern Bedford High School, was awarded first runner up and a check in the amount of $300. Hunter Kagarise, an 11th grade student at Northern Bedford High School, was awarded second runner up and a check in the amount of $200.
Also, competing this year were Savanna Hershberger, Landon Fleck, and Jaida Pensyl all students at Northern Bedford High School.
Dan Hoover, Chuck Gojmerac, Tracy Plessinger, and Shana Stern, members of the Morrisons Cove Rotary Club, congratulated all the contestants for presentations. “We are proud of all of the students who participated in the Four-Way Speech Contest,” commented Hoover. “The substance and presentation of the speeches were impressive.” All the students were encouraged to continue with their public speaking, sharing that it will serve them well in whatever career path they choose.

Morrisons Cove Rotary Club Installs 2023-24 Officers
Morrisons Cove Rotary Club has installed Lou Ann Mock as their new Club President. Mock will serve in this capacity through June 2024. Mock is a Branch Manager of Hometown Bank.
Mock who joined Morrisons Cove Rotary Club in 2019 shared, “I look forward to the next year and my role in the Morrisons Cove Rotary Club. We have some exciting changes coming in the near future, with the addition of the satellite club. We feel this will give a wonderful opportunity to increase membership and interest in our organization. Morrisons Cove Rotary Club has a long history of community involvement and support, and this will continue to grow.”
Joining Mock as Morrisons Cove Rotary Club officers for the 2023-2024 fiscal year are Shana L. Stern as President Elect, John R. Biddle as Secretary, Stephen C. Metzger as Treasurer, and Seth Davis as Immediate Past President.

Sixth Annual Morrisons Cove Rotary Club & Dragon Pride Foundation Golf Outing
Raises Funds for The Cove
The Sixth Annual Morrisons Cove Rotary Club and Dragon Pride Foundation Golf Outing was held on Friday, June 23rd at Iron Masters Country Club. This winning partnership raised a profit of over $10,000 this year thanks to a long list of sponsors, golfers, and many volunteers.
The golf outing was a four-person scramble format. Brent Baker Painting was the winning team with a score of 60 after a card off with Ray Camp VFW who also scored 60 and earned second place. Webber Associates took third place.
The Webber Associates team brought forth an unscheduled challenge when team member Mark Barnhart of NPC offered to donate $1,000 if Derek Martin could sink a 4 1/2 foot putt on the putting green at the end of the tournament. Martin, who reportedly “didn’t make a putt the whole tournament,” came through under pressure and sank the putt.
The Outing’s top three teams include:

Second Place Ray Camp VFW: Mark Nycum, Mark Nelson, Doug Warmath
Third Place Webber Associates: Don Knisely, Mark Emigh, Mark Barnhart, Derek Martin
Skills game winners included the following:
Hole 3 Closest to Pin = Joel Green
Hole 8 Longest Drive = Mason Baker (Mason donated back his $50 prize)
Hole 11 Longest Putt = Dan Hoover
Hole 16 Closest to Pin = Darin Decker
Hole 17 Longest Drive = Joe Maschue
50/50 winner was John Huber with a prize of $375.

Fifth Annual Morrisons Cove Rotary Club & Dragon Pride Foundation Golf Outing Exceeds Goals
Roaring Spring, PA: The Fifth Annual Morrisons Cove Rotary Club and Dragon Pride Foundation Golf Outing held on Friday, June 24th at Iron Masters Country Club was a great success. This winning partnership raised a profit of over $12,000 this year thanks to a long list of sponsors, a record number of golfers, and many volunteers.
Nineteen teams competed on the greens with first place going to the Curry Supply Holdings Team who included four members of the Spring Cove High School golf team. The golf outing was a four-person scramble format. The top three scoring teams included:
First Place Curry Supply Holdings Team: Griffin Snowberger, Nick Baum, Zach Oakes, Ty Oakes (Score 59)
Second Place Spring Cove Education Association Team: Jerry Albright, Zach Wozniak, Bob Nicewonger, Adam Long (Score 61)
Third Place American Legion Team: Chris Metzger, Scott Ranck, Jim Moore, Bradi Moore (Score 62)
Sponsors included Burger King as Outing Sponsor, Maxwell Transit, Curry Supply Holdings, NPC, Inc., American Legion, Beard Legal, Cordell Construction, Mile Level Physical Therapy, Ray Camp VFW Post 7689, Spring Cove Container, and Spring Cove Education Association. Several other businesses and organizations sponsored t-green signs, donated prizes, and in-kind services.

Clean-Up Days
Club members of all ages volunteer to maintain clean roadways and ‘keep America beautiful’ at locations in the Morrisons Cove area.
Scarlet Dragon Back Pack Program
Morrisons Cove Rotary Club members’ involvement in the Scarlet Dragon Pack Program is a collaboration with other community churches and organizations, as well as with other community-interested people. Several of the club’s members have an active role weekly or bi-weekly, while remaining Rotarians volunteer monthly to help stuff food bags and distribute food to Roaring Spring Elementary and Martinsburg Elementary Schools.
Past Presidents’ Dinner
The Morrisons Cove Rotary Club annually holds its Past Presidents’ Dinner to celebrate and recognize past presidents of the club. The dinner is a time to reflect on the past, present and future of Rotary and to highlight some accomplishments along the way. Each year The Paul Harris Award, named for its founder, is awarded to individual Rotarians that have supported the Rotary Foundation with $1,000. The Foundation supports charitable efforts around the globe, from fresh water to food, and most notably the eradication of Polio. The Past Presidents’ Dinner is a great way for Rotarians to meet new leadership, reflect on what has been accomplished in the past, look forward to new goals and to show great appreciation to all of the presidents that have came before and the impact they have created on the Club.
Civic Parades
MCRC participates annually in two community parades: the Roaring Spring Community Fireman’s Parade and the Martinsburg July 4th parade.
Past Events
Morrisons Cove Rotary Club’s “Light Up the Cove” a Success
On Friday, May 8, 2020, at 8:20 p.m., residents, businesses, and local fire 
companies and police departments “lit up the Cove” by turning their lights and sirens on and cheering and clapping amongst their neighbors with streets, parking lots, and front porches lined with residents of the Cove, all to show support and unity during these challenging times.
Even the scoreboard at Central High School was lit with “20:20” displayed to show unity.
“What a fantastic night and great ideas, especially the scoreboard!” said 
Rusty Hoover, a member of the Club. “A big thank you to all those involved in organizing this event!”
The event came together quickly with the help of Morrisons Cove Rotary Club and local municipalities sharing the word as well as the fire and police departments getting involved.
“Thanks so much to all who helped and to John for organizing Martinsburg and Williamsburg so well and keeping us informed,” shared Chrissy Dively, Morrisons Cove Rotary Club President. “Thanks to Headline Marketing & Communications for all of the public relations work, including the creation of flyers and Facebook posts, and to the staff for notifying all the municipalities. Great job everyone!”
Although the weather was wet, it didn’t dampen the pride and unity that lives in Morrisons Cove.
“The weather certainly didn’t cooperate, but the results were not dampened or frozen!” said Dan Hoover, a member of the Club. “Great job by all involved!”

CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL UNVEILS NEW GYMNASIUM
Roaring Spring, PA: 
A ribbon cutting for the new Central High School Gymnasium was held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, 7:15 p.m. prior to the Central High School Boys’ Varsity basketball game against Tyrone Area High School. The event celebrated the combined efforts of Central High School and their community in the completion of their gymnasium renovation project. Click here to read more.
